I have a 96 cadillac deville concours and was wondering if it could be fitted with a supercharger. i know the cadillac xlr has a 4.6 supercharged northstar, just curious as if its the same engine and what kind of set up i would need. I got the car for free from a family member and it's fairly quick so if a supercharger kit is relatively cheap i just might do it

You absolutely CAN supercharge this car, but there are MANY requirements. First you need to change your half-block gasket and check your compression and bearings as there is no point in throwing money at it if it's junk. Then you need to find a supercharger, plumbing, bracketry to fit (which you may have to make). You also will need to upgrade your fuel system as the stock system cannot keep up with the additional air mass. I've heard that you can push a Northstar up to 750hp with the right setup, but you may be better served upgrading to an sts if you are going to go for performance. Good luck!

ALL northstar engines can fit the transverse mount and trans. The CTS V has a Chevy LS6 supercharged, NOT a Northstar. This other homeboy is somewhat knowledgeable, but mostly clueless. Northstars have had forced induction added before, Yours can too, just change that half block gasket. The coolant problem in the Northstar is the half block, NOT the heads BTW

Dude!!!!! I wouldnt worry about adding any supercharger to this car. Your are looking at borrowed time for yours!!! Not to bemean or rude, but 1996 Deville with a Northstar usually will start leaking coolant & then the heads pretty much off the block. Once that happens, you can install heil-coils but they dont last long either & once it fails again, its toast. The only way possible to add a supercharger, you would have to replace that engine & install one that was equipped with one. The cost alone would kill you, it would be cheaper for you to go buy a XLR with it already installed.

You would have to completely modify the front end & suspension since all the Northstars that do have superchargers are frontal mounted engine/transmission asy, not cross ways. they are also rear wheel drive too & yours is a front wheel drive. It would be practically impossible to add one to your car

But you know, the CTS-V & the STS-V also has a Supercharger on it with Northstar as well!!!!! And let me tell you fellow, them things are freakin fast & seriously BAD A%%!!!!! I know, I have to work on Cadillacs!!!! AND--- they do have 565HP STOCK!!!

NO the Northstar is not a small block Chevy. I have seen small blocks in fieros. The Northstar is completely different. You would be better off to put a small block in as there is plenty of information about doing it.Also may some parts to do it also.................UJN

as long as you dont exceed 475hp u can add a super charger but you do have to do a sure grip head stud replacement! northstar performance makes a kit its realy quite easy to do as long as the motor is out of the car..you can also get completely rebuilt heads with new cams and seals including the infamauos vave seals replaced from rock auto for 500 dollars a piece as long as you give them a core ..so for around 1500 dollars you can have a complete new top half of a motor that will never blow the heads gurenteed!!as long as the top half of the motor is fixed with the proper and available technology that motor is good for 475 horsepower and 300k miles i suggest pure plus sinthetic motor oil because it dirives from natural gas and burns 80% cleaner than crude based product my second choice would be amsoil..
