I have 99 chevy suburban and I installed a universAl replacement o/ sensor after the converter. I immediatly got a no activity code on that sensor. I checked and found the ground wire and the two heater wires all had continuity. The ground and heater wires all had continuity with the outter body also. So I replaced it with a store baught complete replacement , pig tail and all. I am still getting this trouble code. Could I have shorted the wiring or the ECM. The truck runs great other than the check engine light is on.

You might have bought a bad sensor. You should also check your fuse and try another sensor.

Did you make sure to clear the codes after you changed it?

Get a manual and look it over it should have some info on how to test them

As a last resort you could try another PCM if you wanted to spend the money for one and to have it programmed.

Good Luck!

Besides the O2 sensor, there's either a mass airflow sensor or map sensor used to calculate air temperature and density. If these are messed up then the air/fuel ratio will be messed up which will cause the O2 sensors to read a problem. The computer codes dont necessarily mean the sensor is bad, it could be that the sensor cant calculate the difference because they are made to operate within a range. If there's an Idle control valve, that can cause some problems. They have a tendency to stick and restrict flow or let too much air in. Dont forget to check for vacuum leaks. The computers cant usually catch these and it will result in a lean burn. The O2 sensors will catch it, but nothing else will because the most air/fuel sensors are before the intake manifold, which is usually where the leaks are.

don't wast your time with those after market o2 sensors or any after marker sensor in fact.

Those hack on the old pig tail sensors are junk. Gm o2 senors get a o2 reference signal from some how reading the out side air through the pig tail, sounds like a load of b/s I know but its true if you start cutting and hack the wires it adds resistance cause the sensor to no longer read right

first get a GM sensor and try that there are two fuses for the sensor heaters that you may want to check

you all so have to clear the code with a scan tool as well just replacing the sensor will not clear the code

and just a side note the rear sensors are not used for engine control they are only used to check emissions the ECM will check to see if there is a difference in the o2 readings between the post and after converter sensors to make sure the converter is working . this sensor plays no role in how well the engine runs...
